The Malay Heritage Center is obviously one of the most sought after places in Singapore. As the name shows it clearly, the Malay Heritage Center is the center where you will come to know everything about the distinctive features of the culture of Singapore and the Malay traditions. With the big advent of tourism in Singapore all the tourist destinations here have gained a lot of reputation and that is why Malay Heritage Center is not also an exception. The government of Singapore had well chalked out the procedures to keep the traditions of the Malay culture because it was seen that Singapore being a cosmopolitan place, the root of their own culture was getting drowned in the oblivion. So it was decided by the government that some positive steps should be taken in order to revive the spirit of their culture. The young generation were getting too much influenced by the Western culture and that is why it had become of utmost importance to establish some organization to show the colorful aspects of their own culture. As a consequence Malay Heritage Center came out. With the forming of the Malay Heritage Foundation in the year 1999 they also built the famous Malay Heritage Center which is frequently visited by the tourists from all the parts of the world. This museum clearly displays all the aspects of the ancient Malay civilization and tells the story of the development of it. It is an attempt to retain the beautiful past in everyone's mind. There are cultural shows during the Wednesdays and the Sundays. The museum remains open to all without any entry fee from 1 o' clock in the noon till 6 o' clock in the evening. Another important place here is the Istana Compound which is also open to all from 8 in the morning up to 9 in the night. A large number of school children are taken up there for the purpose of excursion.
Malay Heritage Center is a beautiful place that you can visit with your family members, specially with the children. The foreigners are always interested to know something exclusive about the Malay civilization and their history. You can also see the Martial Arts and listen to the “Angklung”-an exotic musical instrument that was used in the ancient Malay civilization.
